7 Design Tips for Enhancing Your Workplace

How well do you think you use your workspace? If you are working an office, retail or hospitality premises, it’s especially important to create the right environment for staff and customers. An open plan layout is the norm these days which, combined with modern hating and ventilating systems, enables us to appreciate a greater sense of space.

One of the design challenges is to ensure that the different spaces blend together. For instance, flat-fronted storage cabinets that fade into the walls, matching furniture and walls lined with texture and artwork, are just some of the ideas designers use to create a space that feels inviting rather a merely functional space.

Here’s 7 interior design tips that you can consider for improving your work environment brought to you by FabriStick®.

1. Link with Similar Tones

If you have a space that has been modified over the years, one way to give the whole space a connection is by using the same finishes throughout.

For instance, you can incorporate elements of natural timber in shelving, flooring and storage cupboards that reflects the tones of the walls. This helps work areas tie into the rest of the workspace and feel part of the whole.

2. Create a Recess

Where you have the opportunity with your storage, you can create a recess between the cabinets and incorporate open shelves. The recessed shelving helps otherwise unsightly wall units fade into the background. Use of pale colours helps provide a framework for walls that looks easier on the eye.

3. Make the most of architectural features

If your workspace is blessed with some 'attractive' features, such as beams, pillars, frame or plasterwork, you can use this space as a basis for a scheme to tie in the rest of the area.

Incorporating similar wood , metal or plasterwork into the whole space with simple plain colour palettes can help harmonise with the other elements elsewhere.

Another great tool to utilise and emphasise the architectural features of your workplace is FabriStick®. FabriStick® is a soft matt fabric with peel on, peel off adhesive technology that can be printed in vibrant colours. It can be cut to shapes as well. Perfect for bespoke corporate messaging and branding for business who are going through a re-design, are frequently on the move or perhaps like the occasional office switch-up.

It is non-tearing and can be easily moved, adhering to pretty much any surface, walls radiators, cupboards, you name it! It also works great on wallpaper, uneven surfaces/architecture, awkward corners, sloping ceilings and coloumns/pillars.

4. Curate a Display

A smart way to brighten your environment is to display items such as attractive objects and artwork. This will make your workspace feel less utilitarian and help blend in with the open-plan work space as a whole.

5. Use Imaginative Lighting

These days there are many ways for different types of lighting to focus on the more interesting elements of your space or shift emphasis away from say, storage cabinets.

If you want to be create with lighting, LED strips are a great palace to start. By fitting them along the edges of walls and furniture, you can add a whole new dimension to a room.

6. Create an Illusion

Create the illusion of space and flow by using mirrors in discrete parts of your office or big glass windows. These can be wall-mounted, within glass fronted cabinets. Mirrors are wide and varied and can be as ornamental as you like to suit your own taste. We suggest you use a larger mirror as your space will allow for a greater effect.

Plants have a therapeutic and aesthetic effect in the workplace, helping to create a calming atmosphere. Having a single bold display or series of smaller planting provides a talking point as well as de-stressing effect.
